Mercia Marina Development, Willington, Derbyshire.
A multi-million pound marina which will be one of the largest canal-based marinas in the country is to be built near Willington in Derbyshire. This ambitious project was given the go-ahead by South Derbyshire District Council’s planning committee at its October meeting.

Halletec has worked hard to ensure that planning permission was granted for this prestigious project at first presentation, after 2 years developing the Plan. The former gravel pit workings, originally used to provide construction materials for the A50 dual carriageway, will be developed to offer an attractive location with good access for boat owners.
The £7 million, 585 berth Mercia Marina leisure facility will feature a gastro pub, tearooms and 18 holiday log cabins which will provide around 40 full-time and 80 part-time jobs. Other amenities include a chandlery and fuelling quay.
Councillor Michael Bale, chairman of the planning committee, is pleased of this unique chance to promote tourism in South Derbyshire.
Mark Jenkinson, the project manager from Madecorn Leisure has worked with Halletec since the beginning of this project and is pleased with the support from South Derbyshire council planning committee.
Work is due to start in November with the contractor Land and Water who are specialists in building marinas. The marina is due to be finished in time for the summer season, July 2008.
