Lion Salt Works in July 2007We visited the (Red) Lion Salt Works in July 2007, a working open pan brine salt works, the last of its kind, was forced to close in 1986, with the loss of foreign markets. The site right next to the Trent and Mersey Canal at Marston, Cheshire, on the B5075. The site is designated an area of National and European Union historic importance.

Besides Roman and medieval salt pans, found at Bostock in Cheshire, many other salt related artifacts are on display at the Lion Salt Works Museum.
