Prees Branch - Llangollen Canal Section - Shropshire Union Canal

The Prees Branch of the Llangollen Canal Section of the Shropshire Union Canal in now a truncated canal that leads to the marina owned and operated by Whixhall Marine. The canal never did reach Prees, falling short of the village by about 4 kilometres ending near Edgebaston (off the B5476) There is only water in the navigation as far as Waterloo but not navigable after the aforementioned marina.

On CanalCuttings first visit to the Prees Branch we found the navigable section to be well maintained and teeming with wildlife, probably overspilling from the nearby SSSI at Whixhall Moss. Sighting our first Tawny Owl in a long time! The Tawny was being mobbed by a couple of blackbirds - or we would never have spotted it.
