England's most northerly canal
Work has begun on the restoration of the Northern Reaches of the Lancaster canal - England's most northerly canal - taking it from Tewitfields where its first severed by the M6, through to Kendal. It's intended that the fist section (Tewitfields to Holme village), which begins with a flight of 8 locks immediately after the M6 crossing, will reopen in time for the bi-centenary of the northern section of the canal in 2019
