Stoke Bruerne’s Village at War Weekend

When: 10am-5pm Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th September
(also evening entertainment on Friday 9th & Saturday 10th September)
Where: Stoke Bruerne, Northamptonshire, NN12 7SE – a stunning canalside village with the Grand Union Canal flowing through the centre.

Stoke Bruerne’s Village at War Weekend is all set to deliver yet another opportunity to experience life in the 40s in a glorious setting on the idyllic Grand Union Canal. Old favourites the glamorous singer Lola Lamour and George Formby (aka Paul Casper) will be joined by Perfect Vintage, Ruzzit Buzzit, Bread and Dripping and the Market Harborough Ukele Band to keep both the troops and public entertained royally. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will be back with a fly past on both days and Churchill, Field Marshall Montgomery and George VI will be kept busy delivering rousing speeches and inspecting the troops. On the water, a number of historic boats, some in wartime livery, many of whom played important roles carrying vital supplies for the war effort, will complete the colourful scene.

On land visitors can expect to learn how to Lindy Hop and Jive at the tea dances, watch fashion parades, view a vintage collection of military vehicles, view firepower demonstrations and skirmishes, experience air raids and get a chance to obtain rationed goods in the black market. Living history groups and individual re-enactors such as policemen, spivs, air raid wardens, Home Guard, American GI’s, the Free French and Land Army girls will be in force to entertain and show visitors what life was like in wartime Britain.

Admission is £7.50 per Adult (under 16s free) and parking in Event Car Parks is included. The event is organised by The Friends of the Canal Museum Charity (Reg. No. 1121146) and any surplus goes towards their work supporting The Canal Museum in Stoke Bruerne.
