Tapton Lock Visitor Centre
There are several events coming up at Tapton Lock including the Young Photographers Competition
Pokémon Go - This new craze is taking the country by storm, particularly the gaming generation. Pokémon trainers are searching cities, countryside and waterways, trying to catch and train these pocket monsters. And the great news is that it’s getting people active! In order to evolve your Pokémon and earn coins you need to walk and the more you walk the better it gets! We’ve seen loads of Pokémon trainers along the canal, and we have a Pokestop in the garden outside Tapton Lock Visitor Centre where trainers are calling to do virtual battle. Some of us may find it a very strange phenomenon, but anything that gets people out and enjoying the canal has got to be a good thing!
Our Promotions Team will be at the following venue in the next few weeks.
6th August Aston Carnival
If you would like to help, please come and try it for an hour or two. For further information email [email protected]
Many of you will know about George Findley – fender maker. He is a member of the Trust and has made the fenders for all our tripboats, Python and Dawn Rose. Go to our website for a recent C&RT article and for a video link from our website. (Note Richard Allsopp and Michael Edwards in the background.)
Help needed for eBay sales
There are an increasing number of very generous supporters donating items to raise funds and some of these items require the wider coverage that eBay offers in order to attract the right buyer, one who is prepared to pay the best price in order to maximise the benefit CCT get from those donated goods. The Canal Trust is set up on eBay to so that anyone selling items where 100% of the proceeds goes to CCT does not incur any costs at all. CCT do not get charged either so all it takes is someone with a good understanding of how to sell on eBay who has the time it might take to field any questions from potential buyers and send the items out in a timely fashion as they would do any goods they might sell for themselves. Currently there are two of us list who a few items here and there as time allows, but the donations come in faster than we can get them on eBay, so some help would be wonderful.
We currently have a large number of very desirable items that can be sold, from antique metalware and glassware, out of print books and modern DVD boxed sets - it is a very eclectic mix of items so a willingness to do a bit of research to improve the listing, if the item is not something that you know much about, would be a bonus.
I would be happy to spend a little time going through a few basics with anyone willing to lend a hand with listing the items and, if there is anyone who would like to give it a try and have a go with two or three items to start with, then that would be great. If the timing is not right now (many people are off on holiday in the next couple of months) but you would like to volunteer to sell some items later in the autumn, then please get in touch now and we can plan something to suit.
