After a long and wet winter, White Mills Marina is finally open for business!
It is so hard to believe that this time last year the site was still a grass field waiting to be cut for hay in the Summer. In fact, twelve months ago, we hadn't even signed along the dotted line giving Land and Water the official nod to proceed! So much has happened. And as all the celebs say these days "its been an incredible journey!"
The original plan was for the project to take just 18 weeks, and if the weather had not been quite so testing with the continual rain in the late Summer/Autumn, then we might well have achieved the 18 weeks target. But whilst we were unlucky with the weather and do not want to harp on about it, at least we are now open and up and running in time for the busy Spring/Summer months ahead.
The wait has been worth it and we are all very thrilled with how the first phase has shaped up. We hope to crack on with Phase 2 which is building the facilities/community building later on in the Summer. We just can not wait to get the facilities building up and running so that we have a focal point for our new White Mills community to enjoy.
If you have not been down to visit recently, then please do not forget that we have two open weekends planned - the first is next weekend 2nd & 3rd April followed by 7th & 8th May. Of course you don't have to wait for an open weekend to come and visit Chris in his new office. You are welcome any time and he even has a kettle now too!
Nobody has been more keen than Chris to move his office from his narrowboat Bees Knees to a new dedicated all singing, all dancing wooden cabin.
Having a proper site office means that Chris can now ensure the White Mills operates as a brand new marina should be operating, and because the office is adjacent to all the services Chris is perfectly situated to lend a helping hand when required. In addition, because he also has a window facing the entrance from the road, he will be able to keep a watchful eye on all the comings and goings too.
It was a real team effort getting his office and the new laundry room painted and kitted out in time for Easter. It looks great.
The Easter bank holiday weekend gave us the opportunity to get the entire marina looking ship shape, hedging has been planted, everywhere has now been seeded for grass and generally tidied up - even the road side has had a makeover!
