The Chesterfield Canal Trust will soon be selling its tripboat John Varley.
The Chesterfield Canal Trust will soon be selling its tripboat John Varley. It is being replaced by a new boat, which is currently being fitted out by Tristar Boats having been constructed by Soar Valley Steel Boats.
John Varley went into service in 1992 and has undergone several transformations since then, including a 6’ stretch in 2006 and rebottoming in 2012. It has a wheelchair lift and a hydraulic drive, and seats 12 passengers. The new boat will arrive in May.
Both old and new will be in action at the IWA National Trailboat Festival on 28th and 29th May which the Trust is hosting at Staveley Town Basin. After that, John Varley will be surplus to requirements. Anyone interested in the purchase should contact the Trust on 01246 477569 or [email protected]
The Trust estimates that it is worth about £8000.
