Historic Barge project open days May day Bank holiday weekend, 2015

Viktoria Over the forthcoming May day weekend, Sunday 3rd & Monday 4th of May, everyone is invited to visit The Old Stables, Mill Lane, Burscough, on the banks of the Leeds and Liverpool canal, to view progress of the H and R Ainscough’s Barge Restoration project.

Members of the restoration project are holding open days to allow the public to view one, possibly both, of the two unique barges that are part of Burscough’s history. Question about the restoration work can be answered by members on hand.

The society has recently established a base in the old stables and over the two days will be offering people the chance to find out and become involved with the ongoing work to restore “Ambush” and “Victoria” to their former glory. There will be displays in the Burscough canal services chandlery at the Society's base in the stables.

“Ambush” and “Viktoria” are the last locally owned boats remaining from a fleet. They are the largest craft that can be seen today on the inland non tidal waterways of the country, being 72ft long and 14ft wide.

All welcome to drop into this free event which runs from 11 to 4 each day.
