Logo This year, the Buckingham Canal Society will be holding its 23rd AGM & Social Evening at the Buckingham Community Centre, Cornwalls Meadow, Buckingham, MK18 1RP on Saturday 31st January, starting at 7.15pm.

This time it will be a little different, as we will be dealing with the business of our former incarnation as an Unincorporated Charitable Trust alongside our newly formed status as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). The trustees will talk about the Society’s activities and the progress that has been made over the last twelve months, as well as all that they plan to deliver over the next year and beyond.

A lot has happened since the last AGM, be it out on the canal or behind the scenes. As well as our transformation in charitable status, we’ve successfully started re-watering trials at the Cosgrove end of the Buckingham Canal. Work is now getting underway to further restore the section at our Hyde Lane site near Thornborough. It’s been our most productive and successful year yet for working with volunteer work parties from external organisations. All the while, various project teams have also been involved in project planning, canal surveys, publicity, finances, grant applications and much much more.

The evening will conclude with a talk given by our guest speaker Richard Parry, Canal & River Trust CEO, entitled ‘Our Vision for the Future of the Canal Network and Restoration’.

AGM The event is as always open for members and non members alike to attend, so please inform a friend or relative that youthink will be interested in our work, or even in becoming a trustee. The evening is always an ideal opportunity to catch up with those you know, but maybe more importantly, network with someone new over a glass of wine. If you are new to our AGMs, please make yourself known at the door, and you will be warmly welcomed within. Our event is always very popular, with plenty of discussion to be had. This year’s AGM promises to be one of, if not the most important yet, so please join us.
