NB "Roger" BW 65070 - Historic Narrowboats

Narrowboat Roger 65070

Narrowboat 'Roger'

Narrowboat 'Roger' situated at the Batchworth Lock Visitor Centre was probably the last wooden motorised narrowboat to trade on the Grand Union Canal and has been restored by the The Rickmansworth Waterways Trust, with the help of lottery funding. Roger is the sole surviving example of a narrowboat built by Bushell Brothers of Tring, who constructed wooden boats between 1850 and 1950. NB Roger was built to transport coal, towing a non-motorised butty boat and was operated by the Bray family.

Roger is registered with British Waterways with number 65070 as a powered craft (--BHP) with a wooden hull by Bushell Bros - date not known.

Length 72 feet (21.95m); Beam 7 feet (2.13m); Draft 3 feet (0.91m).

We saw Narrowboat Roger on 24 April 2010 at Batchworth Lock Visitor Centre on the Grand Union Canal near Rickmansworth and she was in good order.

Roger is also probably the most photographed historic narrowboat in existence!
