Horseshoe Falls, Llangollen Canal,
Denbighshire, Wales

The Horseshoe Falls are in fact a man made weir, designed by Thomas TelfordHorseshoe Falls is the feeder source of the Llangollen Canal at Llangollen, Denbighshire, Wales. About two miles from the end of the motor navigable Llangollen Canal accessible on foot on the level towpath or travel in style in a horse drawn boat from Llangollen Wharf.

Source of the Llangollen Canal at Llangollen, Denbighshire, Wales. The Horseshoe Falls are in fact a man made weir, designed by Thomas Telford with the object of impounding some of the raging waters of the River Dee as it surges down the Llangollen valley - to be diverted into the Llangollen Canal, coincidentally transporting (domestic) water over 25miles to the Hurlseton Reservoir and Shropshire Union Canal (proper).

The Horseshoe waterfall is a popular and delightful spot to visit but not as spectacular as you may anticipate for such a renowned welsh beauty spot.

MAP - On the OS Map the 'Horseshoe Falls' are just referred to as 'Weir'
