NB "Actis" BW 69054 - Historic Narrowboats

Narrowboat 'Butty' Actis 69054

Actis is registered with British Waterways with number 69054 as an unpowered craft with a composite hull built by Harland and Wolff - date not known.

Length 71 feet 7 inches (21.82m); Beam 7 feet (2.13m); Draft 2 feet 2 inches (0.66m).

We saw Narrowboat Actis on 2 September 2010 on the Kennet and Avon Canal and she was in good order.

Actis is a 1935 Star Class Small Woolwich she is still composite and has been worked on in the last 4 years (by Rex Wain) having some bottom planks replaced, re-caulked, and a long section of the kelson replaced. She still has a traditional back cabin with a full length conversion under cloths. A massive galley with space to seat up to 12 , she traded on the K+A as a coffee boat for 2 years 2009/11.

Kevin Howard informed us on 23/10/13 - "The boat Actis has been bought by a friend of mine and moved to Devizes where he intends to fit an engine and do her up to live on her." (we look forward to seeing her on our next cruise down the K&A)
