CHILDREN'S ACTIVITY AND RECREATIONAL PROJECTS (CARP)

Children’s Activity and Recreational Projects (CARP) is a small charity that has since 1977 provided activities and assistance to disadvantaged children, including the disabled, their families and support groups in the Black Country. At first camping holidays were offered, now its trips or short holidays on canal boats.

During the trips children can do art and craft work or learn about the canal, their heritage and wildlife. A special programme is offered to problematical teenagers in which they learn how to take charge of a boat, building their confidence and social skills. CARP currently operates from two pick-up points in Wolverhampton .

As a small charity Children’s Activity and Recreational Projects rely heavily on volunteers who are trained to operate and maintain the boats and do the craft work that the children enjoy. The quality of our training was recognized recently by an Investors in People (IIP) award. Those who want to skipper the boats can obtain a Boat master’s Licence issued by the Marine and Coastguard Agency.

As we work with children we do require volunteers to have a police check and our policies and procedures cover all the necessary health and safety.
