We visited The Grand Union one lunchtime in early April 2010 soon after the grand re-opening and found it to be a delightful canalside bar, terrace and fine-dining restaurant, providing 50 covers, with many original features but with a modern twist.

We took our lunch from the bar menu and sat out on the newly decked roof terrace that overlooks the canal and restaurant garden. The bar and terrace can be reached at both street level or canal level via the newly installed outside stairway from the canalside restaurant garden.

The lunch bar menu is available 6 days a week from 12.00 to 15.00. I had the 'Grazing Board' of rustic breads, roast garlic cloves, marinated olives, olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar, costing £4.95 and Jean had The Grand Union Cobb Salad, including prawns, crab, salmon, egg and cheese at £9.95, both beautifully presented.

The Grand Union has recently undergone extensive refurbishment under new ownership, but retains the same passion that has offered a distinctive dining experience throughout its history.

Customers choosing their unique restaurant with the garden leading onto The Grand Union Canal are able to choose from a menu that changes on a weekly basis.

Their very creative chefs use fresh seasonal ingredients to ensure even the most discerning appetites are satisfied. The restaurant also serves a Prix Fix lunch menu.

Serving a wide selection of wines, spirits and cocktails, the bar has a relaxed bohemian atmosphere and also offers a select daytime menu.
