Ramsey High Lode (Drain) - Part of The Middle Level Fenland Waterways.
We cruised the navigable Ramsey High Lode (Drain) from the junction with the River Nene (Old Course) at the northern end in early June 2011 to the terminus in the town of Ramsey the full 1.1mi / 1.8km at the southern end.
There are no locks or sluices on the Ramsey High Lode. The navigation that runs almost true north to south, is narrow and the water shallow with a couple of kinks in the almost straight line. There are visitor moorings at the terminus in Ramsey, Cambridgeshire and we did see another boats moored outside Bill Fen Marina. The speed limit is 5mph.
We moored overnight on the visitor moorings at Ramsey and managed to get a satellite freesat signal.
There is a suggestion in various waterways publications information that a 60ft narrowboat can turn at the Ramsey Moorings. Our narrowboat is 60ft and we would like to amend that to 58ft! We reversed back up to Bill Fen Marina.
Ramsey has a row of shops and two supermarkets. A Tesco is about 300m away b(within sight of the mooring) and the Co-op is about 500m in the opposite direction.
