Forty Foot Drain - Vermuyden's Drain - Part of The Middle Level Fenland Waterways

We cruised the navigable Forty Foot Drain - Vermuyden's Drain from Horseway junction with the Sixteen Foot Drain at the eastern end in early June 2011 to the junction with the River Nene (Old Course), which we joined, at Well's Bridge for just 12.2mi / 7.6km. of the total 17.3mi / 10.7km at the western end.

Typical view from a boat on Forty Foot Drain - Vermuyden's Drain There are no locks or sluices on the navigation runs almost true east of west, is wide and the water deep with a couple of kinks in the almost straight line. There are no visitor moorings and we didn't see another boat. The speed limit is 5mph.
