Trina's Canalware - Roses and Castles Canal Art

Trina Day - Narrowboat Canal Art - "Roses and Castles" by Trina Day, Artist

Canal Art - "Roses and Castles" by Trina Day, ArtistTrina Day and her husband Ray cruise narrowboat "Foray", and have been boating for over 20 years. Stationed for the first 14 years on the Kennet and Avon Canal. Since 1999 they have had moorings on the Trent and Mersey.

Trina has had a long interest in canal art, and has painted 'roses and castles' and other traditional images on boats and utilitarian items then known as canalia.

Trina says 'I started painting various items, such as 'Buckby' watercans and other containers for myself and went on to paint decorative motiefs on our boat and things that I gave to people as presents. This has developed into a hobby business just selling my own work and I hope I can give some pleasure.'

Canal Art - "Roses and Castles" by Trina Day, ArtistTrina obviously loves her painting and selling her finished works allows her to carry on her hobby. All of Trina's works are done in high gloss enamel paints and most items are clear varnished to give them added durability.

You can see more of Trina's work on www.Boat-Foray.co.uk

Editors note: In canal craft painting things are generally dictated by tradition, although, once a certain standard of proficiency has been achieved, most people like to incorporate their own individual ideas within that tradition. The most popular elements of narrow boat livery, roses and castles, can be used to decorate a variety of things, from traditional water cans and dippers to small gift items and even furniture. Jumble sales and junk stalls are great places to find things to renovate and decorate.
