Roger Hanbury, Chief Executive of The Waterways Trust “Further to the confirmation of government support for British Waterways’ decision to move towards third sector status, The Waterways Trust welcomes this as a positive step towards securing a sustainable future for the inland waterway network.

“Over the past decade, The Waterways Trust has gained substantial expertise in fundraising, public engagement, partnership working and in developing volunteering including a new volunteer partnership model for the waterways museums.

As British Waterways enters a significant programme of change we will work closely with them, sharing our skills and experience to help it achieve its aim of becoming a third sector organisation.

The Waterways Trust will continue as a separate charity, working with our partners and volunteers to extend our successful programme of projects, campaigns and appeals. As further detail becomes clear we will consider how we can best work with BW to enrich people’s lives through waterways.”
