Green Tourism Award For The Linlithgow Union Canal Society

The Linlithgow Union Canal Society (LUCS) are proud to announce that they have been awarded a Silver Green Tourist Award

The Museum

Who are The Linlithgow Union Canal Society? They are the oldest canal society in Scotland, the biggest canal society in Scotland, and now they are the first canal Society in the United Kingdom to be given this prestigious award.

"Victoria"The Linlithgow Union Canal Society, entirely staffed by volunteers, was formed in 1975 to promote the restoration and use of the canals in Scotland and the Union Canal in particular. Had it not been for the LUCS on the Union Canal together with Ronnie Rusacks M.B.E. late of the Bridge Inn at Ratho and the Forth and Clyde Canal Society (on the Forth and Clyde canal) there wouldn't be a Falkirk Wheel.

Saint MagdaleneOver the years the LUCS have built up a fleet of 3 passenger vessels carrying between 12 and 40 persons, an award winning Tea Room, the only canal related museum in Scotland and an education facility seating up to 40, The Mel Gray Centre, named after the founding Chairman and leading light of the Canal Society.

The LUCS are opening for the season at Easter Weekend and, as they are staffed by volunteers, they are open only at the weekends between 14.00 and 17.00 but during July to mid August they are open 7days a week 14.00 to 17.00. The LUCS are, however, delighted to arrange boat charters at anytime by prior booking. The same is true of the other facilities. Further details can be found on their web site at www.lucs.org.uk or by contacting the Booking Secretary on 01506 843194.
