The Chesterfield Canal Trust - Nona’s moves to Hollingwood

A Chesterfield Canal institution is moving. On 1st June, Nona’s Coffee Shop will open at Hollingwood Hub.

The Chesterfield Canal Trust - Hollingwood Hub -

Nona’s started in Shireoaks five years ago. Since that time it has become a much loved stop for walkers, cyclists, boaters, anglers and of course local people. However the owner, Dawn Siddons, has decided to move west to Chesterfield.

She is taking over brand new premises at the renovated and extended Lock House now known as Hollingwood Hub. Dawn promises the same excellent standard of homemade food, but is ready to adapt to the needs of her new clients. Nona’s will be open from Wednesday to Sunday and Bank Holiday Mondays. The move has caused consternation in Shireoaks. Some regulars have been moved to tears. However many have promised to follow her to Hollingwood.

The site on Works Road is owned by Derbyshire County Council whose architects have supervised the renovation and construction following an idea originally put forward by Dr. Geraint Coles – the canal’s Development Manager. The work was chiefly funded by a grant from Community Assets, funded by HM Government Office for Civil Society in 2008 and administered by the BIG Fund, the non-Lottery funding arm of the Big Lottery Fund.

Hollingwood Hub will be run by a non-profit making Community Interest Company set up by the Chesterfield Canal Trust which is leasing the building. The board of this company will include members from the local community.

Besides the Coffee Shop, there is a meeting room and offices for the Chesterfield Canal Trust and the Chesterfield Canal Partnership. The meeting room can be used by schools, crèches or playgroups. It will be available from the early morning until late evening, so social events, training courses and night school classes will find it really handy. There will be space for the Arts including indoor and outdoor performances and display space.
