“Chesterfield Waterside” - 60 Acre Mixed-Use Landmark Project

BUCKING THE TREND & RARING TO GO IN 2011
Chesterfield’s pioneering urban regeneration development, “Chesterfield Waterside” is bucking the construction trend and raring to go in 2011.

“Chesterfield Waterside” - 60 Acre Mixed-Use Landmark Project

As Peter Swallow, Director of Urbo Regeneration, the developer behind this 60 acre mixed-use landmark project said, “It has been very tough in the construction industry, but we are in a good position. We are poised and ready for action at Chesterfield Waterside”.

He continued, “The research group UK “Centre for Cities” (24.1.11) said places such as Hull and Doncaster are “bouncing back” and cities such as Leeds, Nottingham and Sheffield, where private per capita employment is higher than average would weather the public sector cuts better than most. I feel confident in the region’s future.”

DEVELOPERS RELEASE MORE ARCHITECTS IMAGES

“Chesterfield Waterside” - 60 Acre Mixed-Use Landmark Project“Earlier this month innovative architects, OMI, completed more images for our key commercial character zones, these include: Station Place and Basin Square. Station Place will be a high-density collection of buildings arranged around a central area, it will be an informal space enclosed by shops and cafes. The buildings will comprise a hotel, offices and car parks in a thriving business environment.”

“Chesterfield Waterside” - 60 Acre Mixed-Use Landmark Project“These exceptional designs provide the people of Chesterfield with a good insight into how their urban waterside village is going to look.”

Peter Swallow concluded, “We are renowned in the industry for providing outstanding sustainable buildings and developments. It’s been tough for many companies, but we a delighted to report that we are still going strong and excited about the future in 2011.”

‘Life in North Nottinghamshire, Past and Present’ - A Community Exhibition

A celebration of local history, and community in North Nottinghamshire, takes place from 20th February 2011 until 20th March, at Thoresby Gallery. The exhibition showcases events, stories and activities, past and present. Caroline Hughes, Coordinator of The Pierrepont Collection, said, ‘This part of Nottinghamshire has long-been associated with historic themes relating to Sherwood Forest and the Dukeries estates, and our visitors at Thoresby are fascinated with the history and customs of the area. The exhibition not only showcases our exciting local history, but also reveals the incredible vitality of North Nottinghamshire. Here is a range of committed and inspired work by our local interest groups and trusts, which highlights our keen sense of community spirit, even when faced with adversities such as de-industrialisation and deprivation.’

To give a taste of the exhibition, there will be local history displays from Norwell Parish history group, Wellow Maypole Committee as well as Ollerton of Yesteryear group’s photographs and stories from the colliery days. Members of Ollerton and Boughton Scouts group are learning heritage research skills to develop an information display board, while The Sherwood Forest Trust Heritage Ranger is showcasing ‘May Day with Robin Hood’s Village, Edwinstowe’ and St George’s Day Celebration at Ollerton. Also included, are The Chesterfield Canal Trust, who currently have 1100 members, run entirely by volunteers, and whose aims are to promote the full restoration and appropriate development of the Chesterfield Canal.

Caroline Hughes said, ‘We are enthusiastic to work in partnership with the community and our painting collection of local places and people during 20thC, by Marie Louise Pierrepont, of Thoresby Hall, reveal her passion for this area, so we will be exhibiting some of these alongside the displays. We will also be showing objects from the collections of The Queen’s Royal Lancers/ Nottinghamshire Yeomanry Museum, whose regiments were partly raised in the area and who are relocating their regimental museums to Thoresby Courtyard next spring.’

To accompany the exhibition, will be a rolling film show as well as a programme of free talks: Details will be on our web site at www.thoresby.com. The exhibition will not only give a snap shot of life in North Nottinghamshire, but also the opportunity to take part in local activities. We welcome enquiries regarding group membership or from any potential volunteers who might like to take part in an interesting community venture.
