Caldon Canal Major Breach - 12 November 2009

The Caldon Canal, Leek Branch had a major Breach between Tunnel Pool and bridge 9 at the end of the Leek Arm on 12/11/09, around about 07.00.

British Waterways staff were quickly on the scene and had the canal planked up at tunnel pool and set about the long and hard challenge of setting out a repair plan.

The pictures were taken during the first or second day. The damage can be seen but the pics don’t do the scale of the problem justice, B/W staff have to be commended on their prompt and professional action which saved numerous boats from tipping over, customer care was adhered to swiftly and many emergency procedures were put in to operation from fish rescue to environmental practices.
