Boat Show Deal Signals Liverpool’s Continuing Resurgence

A landmark agreement between Marine Industry Events, British Waterways and Albert Dock Liverpool has secured the Boat Show in Liverpool for the next 10 years

The show will include floating islands which will be able to accommodate the multi-million pound vessels expected to exhibit at the show taking place from 29th April to the 8th May next year.

British Waterways the organisation responsible for the 35 hectares of waterspace in Liverpool’s South Docks complex has agreed to invest in the inaugural Liverpool Boat Show in a deal worth half a million pounds. The organisation, is contributing more than 600 metres of pontoons for the show which are set to become permanent fixtures in the Albert and Salthouse docks.

It is the latest in a line of large organisations to show their support for the event and will help to continue the development and regeneration of the city’s famous waterfront.

Julie Sharman, Head of Regeneration North for British Waterways, said: “We are delighted to be working alongside the team delivering the Liverpool Boat Show 2011 – it is set to be a great success and one which we are pleased to be a part of.

“The regeneration of Liverpool’s docklands and canal link has been a major part of the transformation of the city over the last decade – Albert Dock is an excellent venue for national events and it’s great to be able to contribute towards the continued success of an area which has become a shining example of regeneration excellence.”

Rob MacKenzie?, Managing Director of Marine Industry Events, said: “The Liverpool Boat Show is attracting some of the biggest names in the marine industry and with an organisation like British Waterways throwing their support behind us we are in really good shape to deliver a show like no other.

“The potential value to Liverpool from the Boat Show is thought to be around £40m each year it takes place in the city. Even without this figure, the long term benefits are starting to become clear, not just in relation to the infrastructure of the waterfront, but also to the city as a whole.”

Sue Grindrod, Chairman of Albert Dock Liverpool added: “Staging an event of this scale will have huge benefits for Liverpool and the Albert Dock. We are the perfect location for the Boat Show and it will be great to see the water here being utilised to its full potential. Albert Dock is already one of the North West's most popular tourist attractions and a successful Liverpool Boat Show will certainly add to that status by drawing in a whole new audience. This is an excellent example of everyone working together to achieve something really special."

The Liverpool Boat Show is being delivered by Marine Industry Events Ltd in partnership with Liverpool City Council, the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), Liverpool Vision, British Waterways, Albert Dock Liverpool, The Mersey Partnership and the new Liverpool Waterfront Partnership.

Through sponsorship and investment the Liverpool Boat Show has already exceeded its £1m sponsorship target.
